Pienso que es un error del pppd que intenta autentificar tu maquina con 
el sistema (no tu cuenta de acceso sino tu maquina), eso lo hace CHAP a 
menos le digas la opcion al PPPD de 'noauth'.
De esa forma no lo hace, o bien se pones el password en el archivo 
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets ... pero mejor ponle la opcion de 'noauth'. Esa la 
puedes poner en el archivo /etc/ppp/options

Casi seguro es eso.
