MEjor, mucho mas padre y lo mejor de TODO es que es libre, se llama GIMP

(Gnu Image Manipulation Program) esta padrisimo, con opciones de layers,
filtros, canvas, briushes , checale en http://www.gimp.org
 

si tienes una distribucion como el REd-hat es casi seguro que ya lo tengas

Este es un caso muy especial , programas para graficos en 3d sobre linux, 
PULULAN, como un ejemplo sencillo Midseye, Pov Ray, Moon Light ( muy
parecido al Soft Image de SGI) solo busca en internet y uts...
