Compilando fuentes

Lista:
Ya me paso un par de veces que cuandio corro
# ./configure
en un fuente, comienza chequear y me arroja
cheking for ... bla bla bla ...OK
cheking for  mas bla bla bla ... found
cheking for gcc... gcc
cheking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create
executables.

(?)  estoy usando la version 2.8.1 del gcc
Alguna idea ?
