Trata de checar el How to Hook up PPP in Linux, (
http://axion.physics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html ), donde mencionan esto:
Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
This means that your ISP was not expecting you to negotiate ppp at
this point. It almost certainly means that your ISP wants you to log on
first.
Lo mas seguro es que se necesite un login PAP...Yo sugeririra intentar el
kppp, es muy facil si el problema es realmente este...suerte!
